Duan Wu 端午

Duan Wu festival is also called Dragon Boat festival or Dumpling festival . It falls on 5th Day of the 5th Moon of the Chinese calendar. It marks the ascend of the yang energy symbolized by the dragon, up to the sky ( thus the dragon boat race held around this time of the year) . It is usually quite hot around this time of the year in Northern hemisphere and more frequent tornado ( dragon manifestation 🙂 ) It is also the day to remember a poet of ancient China named Qu Yuan . He was from the Southern part of China and he wrote beautiful poem. The culture of the South was more free spirit than the serious Confucius of the North. Anyway being Chinese ( as a race and not nationality here) we can’t celebrate a festival without food and dumpling is the food for this festival.
