Brickfield / KL Sentral

The KL Sentral is the railway and transport hub of this city . KL Sentral was part of Brickfield and much of the land of KL Sentral used to belong to KTM ( the oldest railway company that controlled by gov) Now Brickfield is much reduced in size. Why KTM didn’t continue to own this land is a mystery. KTM won’t loose money and need tax payers to fund the losses if the revenue of this land went into KTM. Anyway I digress.

The Brickfield now are old building ,old streets and KL Sentral is a concrete jungle with modern sky-crappers. The old and new is divided by a road. Anyone want to see contrast of old and new should pay a visit to this place.

Leprosy Settlement Snapshot 1

Many leprosy patients in the old days were isolated in this settlement. Many were abandoned by the families and some chose not to go back to their families even after fully recovered due to stigma. There are many sad human stories about this leprosy settlement. Many have been recorded by others. However many see the beautiful side of this area and trying to promote it. Search for Valley of Hope to learn more.

I went there this morning for nostalgic reasons bec my wife and I went there to buy flowers many time when we first married decades ago. Much beautiful and sweet memories. The places had changed a lot. Majority of nurseries and flowers stalls are not run by the settlers now. I was informed about 10% +- are still run by the settlers.

I took my LX7 along but alas I forget to bring a spare battery and the old battery like me went out of power fast. Anyway, here are some snapshots.

Walking from Bkt Nanas to Bkt Bintang.

I took a walk from LRT Station at Bukit Nanas to Sg Wang / Lot 10 along the Tun Dr Ismail road ( Is there old name for this road? After my generation , the younger generation will not know many old road name. The new names are mostly long. I would prefer the name Batu Road but then politicians think otherwise).

I have not walked aimlessly in this area for many years. There are more high rise building now. Many old building name were changed too. I guess due to change of ownership. I tried to locate MAS building but failed. Walking in this high rise concrete jungle always feel stressed for me.

Random shots of people

A close one asked me: ” You very free ? had time to take pictures in Chowkit ?” For a moments I lost words to reply . This statements/question can mean no harm; it could also imply I sneaked out during office hours Or it could mean I am wasting time Or it means I thought you were busy in office how come you had time to take pictures Or whatever …..

I didn’t but I could have ans: taking photo is my way of getting exercise, burn some calories with walking around the areas near my work place during lunch time – my limited hours of free time. It is a form of escape from the drudgery of boredom and or stupidity in work places and have at least some minutes of peace and focus at the moments

Some pictures of ppl on the streets taken during those aimless afternoon walks . Click on image for larger view
